Goodbye to Kent MAN Ltd

The final Executive Committee and Board of Directors meetings under the Kent MAN brand were held at the University of Kent on Thursday 29th September 2011. Follow this link for a photo of those present, following the meetings.

Networking in Kent

Work started on the Kentish MAN in 1999 to establish it as the education Regional Network for Kent. It is operated by Kent MAN Ltd, a not-for-profit company owned by four Higher Education partners and Kent County Council. Kent MAN Ltd was established in April 2002.

The Kentish MAN has now been migrated to the KPSN, the Kent Public Service Network. After JANET(UK) changed its model for service delivery via regional network partners, a migration to the KPSN was agreed as the best solution for the region. There is a JANET(UK) website that gives further information about the migration project.

The KPSN has two 10Gbps connections to the JANET network, one at Chatham (University of Greenwich) and one at Canterbury (University of Kent). This provides resilient access to the Internet which is subject to periodic testing.

In August 2006, Kent MAN Ltd became a member of RIPE NCC and is now a Local Internet Registry (LIR).
