2. Building provisioning and setting up a data centre from scratch, Alan Brown, Computing Support Manager, Canterbury College

 

As part of a major programme of investment, Canterbury College is replacing its ageing server room with a state of the art data centre. Alan will describe the highs and the lows, the trials and the tribulations of designing and building a new data centre from scratch.

An insight into the world of cybercrime, spam, phishing attacks that plague us all.

5. In-house vs. Outsourcing e-mail filtering: Graham Francis, Director of IT Services Havering 6th Form College & Patrick Griffin, IT Director St Francis Xavier College

 

An insight of an in house vs. an outsourcing implementation of the email system along with the application to monitor potential usage problems at both colleges respectively.

 

6. Setting up an Eduroam service: Speaker TBC- Canterbury Christ Church University

 

Education roaming allows students, staff and researchers from participating institutions to obtain secure, authenticated wireless Internet connectivity. It works both across campus and when visiting other participating institutions with no need for a guest account. The talk will give an overview of Eduroam, and outline the steps needed to deploy eduroam for your institution. The talk is based on practical experience and includes useful hints to make your life easier and avoid a number of pitfalls.
